Objective
The objective of Hampshire Interfaith Network (HIN) is the promotion of interfaith understanding, enhancing harmony between faiths for the benefit of the people of Hampshire.
Purpose and aims
To promote religious harmony and understanding for the benefit of the people of Hampshire by
- Encouraging and promoting the knowledge, and respecting the beliefs and practices of religious faiths and denominations and further recognising and respecting common ground among the religious but also their unique characteristics
- Consulting and co-operating in social and racial issues and other matters of material concern
- To sustain and strengthen community harmony
- Developing channels of communication, reaching all age groups, especially young people
- Enhancing understanding of issues faced by different faith communities.
Membership
Membership is open to individuals or groups belonging to the nine faiths represented on the UK Interfaith Network Council. ( The nine faiths are: Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Bahai, Jain and Zoroastrian.) Associate membership may be available at the discretion of the committee. Associates will not have voting rights on matters decided by HIN.
Officers and Committees
HIN will elect its officers at the AGM. Nominations for these may be
made prior to or at the AGM. There should be the following officers
elected
Chairperson
Secretary
Treasurer
a. Each of these officer posts will be jointly held
by the Hampshire County Council members/staff until HIN sees itself as a viable
entity. The Office holders shall be eligible for re-election for the coming
years.
b. Any vacancy caused during the year shall be filled on a
temporary basis by the membership at a meeting following the
vacancy arising.
c. The officers will have the power to set up
sub-groups or working parties to organise, facilitate or research specific
pieces of work.
Meetings
The annual general meeting (AGM) shall be held in May/June of each
year. The chairperson's report and the treasurer's audited accounts shall be
presented.
HIN should not meet less than 3 times per year, and the
meetings shall be open to all members of the Network and invited guests.
